EXPLANATION: Actually, this poem is remarkable for Eliot’s faith in idealism and optimism coupled with courage and fortitude. The poet believes:“Life without great aims and ideals is just breathing.” That’s why, he urges us to set high goals and strive to get them. In the given lines, the poet says that life is like a voyage on some ocean. When we determine our goal and get ready to start our voyage, different doubts and apprehensions surround us to discourage. There is no light or chart to guide us. There may be so many obstacles in our way but we should not cease our journey and with the song of optimism on our lips, we must go ahead because individuals and nations wither away or perish without vision.
