Q.No.2: Read the following passage and answer the questions given at the end in your own words.
Fortunately, however, the growth of industrialism has coincided in the west with the growth of democracy. It is possible now, if the population of the world does not increase too fast, for one man’s labour to produce much more than is needed to provide a bare subsistence for himself and his family. Given an intelligent democracy not misled by some dogmatic creed, this possibility will be used to raise the standard of life. It has been so used, to a limited extent, in Britain and America and would have been so used more effectively but for war. Its use in raising the standard of life has depended mainly upon three things: democracy, trade unionism, and birth control. All three of course, have incurred hostility from the rich. If these three things can be extended to the rest of the world as it becomes industrialized, and life the dangers of great wars can be eliminated, poverty can be abolished throughout the whole world, and excessive hours of labour will no longer be necessary anywhere, but without these three things, industrialism will create a regime lie that in which the pharaohs built the pyramids. In particular, if world population continues to increase at the present rate, the abolition of poverty and excessive work will be totally impossible.
خوش قسمتی سے تاہم مغرب میں صنعتی ترقی جمہوری ترقی کے ساتھ جڑی ہوئی ہے۔ اب یہ ممکن ہے کہ اگر دنیا کی آبادی اتنی تیزی سے نہیں بڑھتی ہے کیونکہ ایک آدمی کی مزدوری اسکو اور اسکے خاندان کے پالنے کی ضروریات سے ذیادہ نہیں ہو پاتی ہے۔ کسی ذہین جمہوریت کو جسے عقائد سے گمراہ نہ کیا جائے تو یہ امکان ہماری ذندگی کے معیار کو بڑھا دے گا۔ اسے برطانیہ اور امریکہ میں محدود حد تک استعمال کیا گیا ہے۔ اور اسے سوائے جنگ کے اور بھی موثر تریقے سے استعمال کیا جاتا۔ معیار ذندگی کو بڑحانے میں اس کے استعمال نے تین چیزوں پر انحصار کیا ہے یعنی کہ جمہوریت، ٹریڈ یونین ازم اور پیدائش پر قابو۔ بلاشبہ ان تینوں کی امیروں نے مخالفت کی ہے۔ اگر ان تین چیزوں کو باقی دنیا تک بڑھایا جا سکتا ہے جیسا کہ یہ صنعتی ہو جائے اور اگر عظیم جنگوں کے خطرات کو ختم کیا جا سکتا ہے تو غربت کو پوری دنیا سے ختم کیا جا سکتا ہے۔ اور محنت کے طویل اوقات کی مزید ضرورت نہیں ہو گی۔ لیکن ان تین چیزوں کے علاوہ صنعت ایک ایسی سلطنت پیدا کرے گی جیسا فرعون نے اہرام مصر بنایا۔ خاص طور پر اگر دنیا کی آبادی اسی شرح سے بڑھتی گئی تو غربت اور کام کی ذیادتی کو ختم کرنا ناممکن ہوگا۔

Précis: The western countries are showing great progress in the field of industry with the growth of democracy. A wise and intelligent democracy can be of great help to enhance the standard of living of the people. The standard of life depends on trade unionism, democracy and birth control. With the help of these things, poverty and excessive hours of labour can also be eliminated.
