Q.No.2: Read the following passage and Answer the question given at the end. (The answer must be in your own words.) (25)
Great progress has been made by America in the field of mechanization. It is spending lavishly on labour saving machines. Efficient organization of highly mechanized system has resulted in maximum productivity in America. With mass production, the amenities of life are available to almost every citizen. On the country, Europe subordinates the use of machines to human happiness and welfare. It encourages man’s reliance on his own faculties and realizes the dangers inherent in the American scheme. However great the advantages of mechanization, it crushes the creative faculty of man and makes a machine out of him. His individual liberty and personality suffer an irretrievable loss. In his moments of leisure the worker finds it difficult to turn his hands to creative work because the machine- made goods do not inspire him in the direction of refinement. These goods also their fascination because mass production has given a setback to the individuality of the articles produced. The Europeans, therefore, contend that it is better to sacrifice a few material comforts than crush the aesthetic and spiritual urge in the individual which large scale mechanization is doing in America.
ترجمہ: مشینری کے شعبہ میں امریکہ نے بہت ترقی کی ہے۔ یہ محنت کم کرنے والی مشینوں پر بے تحاشہ پیسہ خرچ کر رہا ہے۔ مشینری کے اس نظام میں موثر تنظیم کا نتیجہ امریکہ میں زیادہ سے زیادہ پیداوار ہے۔ اس زیادہ پیداوار کے ساتھ ضروریات زندگی کی اشیاء ہر شہری تک پہنچ رکھتی ہیں۔ اسکے برعکس یورپ مشینوں کو انسانی خوشی اور فلاح کے ماتحت کرتا ہے۔ یہ انسان کی اپنی صلاحیتوں پر بھروسے کی حوصلہ افزائی کرتا ہے اور اور امریکی منصوبوں میں موجود خطرات کا احساس کرتا ہے۔ تاہم مشینری کے جتنے بھی فائدے ہوں یہ انسان کی تخلیقی صلاحیتوں کو کچل دیتی ہےاور اسے ایک مشین بنا دیتی ہے۔ اسکی انفرادی آزادی اور شخصیت ناقابل تلافی نقصان کا سامنا کرتی ہے۔اپنے فرصت کے لمحات میں ایک کام کرنے والے کے لئے یہ بہت مشکل ہوتا ہے کہ وہ اپنے ہاتھ کسی تخلیقی کام کی طرف لے جائے کیونکہ مشینوں سے بنی اشیاء اسے کسی چیز کی بہتری کی طرف کشش نہیں کرتیں۔ یہ چیزیں اسکے لئے اپنی کشش بھی کھو دیتی ہیں کیونکہ زیادہ پیداوار نے پیدا کی گئی اشیاء کی انفرادیت کو نقصان پہنچایا ہے۔ اسی لئے یورپین اس بات کی تصدیق کرتے ہیں کہ یہ بہتر ہے کہ کچھ مادی خوشیوں کو قربان کر دیا جائے بہ نسبت اسکے کہ آپ ایک انفرادی شخص میں جمالیاتی اور روحانی خواہش کو کچل دیں جو امریکہ میں مشینری کر رہی ہے۔
(I)What is the result of progress in the field of mechanization in America?
Answer: Mechanization in America has given birth to maximum productivity.
(ii)How has this mechanization affected the citizens?
Answer: It has very bad effects. It has crushed a man’s creative capabilities and made him a machine.
(iii)What is the case in Europe?
Answer: In Europe, the machines are given secondary importance. First preference of Europe is human being and his capabilities.
(iv) Why do Europeans sacrifice a few material comforts?
Answer: They Europeans sacrifice a few material comforts because they prefer man and depend on his creative abilities. They give secondary importance to the machines.

Sir,
I want to raise my voice against an important issue of society. This problem is of corruption. It has become a grave problem of our society. Wherever you go, you experience corruption. It has taken firm roots in every department of Pakistan. Most of the government servants accept bribery. A corrupt society goes to dogs morally and economically. A society having corruption in its roots produces thieves, dacoits and terrorists. Democracy does not flourish properly. Corruption is one of the major reasons of the down fall of the nations. There are so many reasons for the increase in corruption. First, low salaries of the public servants contribute a lot to increase corruption. Second, increasing dearness also causes corruption in society. Third, to spend lavishly to maintain the customs and traditions of society is also one of the major reasons of corruption. In this regard, I would like to give some suggestions to nip the corruption in the bud. First, the political, moral and social system of the country should be changed completely. Second, anti corruption department should be made effective. Third, the salaries of the public servants should be increased.
I am sure that the concerned authorities would take immediate action against it.
