Q. No. 1: How has the scientific method helped us in our fight against diseases?

Answer:Scientific method has helped us a lot in our fight against diseases. We have discovered many medicines. We have also discovered how to prevent and cure a disease.

Q. No. 2: Write a note on the better sanitary conditions available in our cities today and compare them with what they were like a hundred years ago?

Answer: In the past, the streets were narrow and unpaved in cities. They were full of garbage. But today, they are paved and well drained. They are also cleaned regularly.

Q.No.3: What are the sanitary conditions in our villages today? OR How can the sanitary conditions be improved in our village?     

Answer: At present, the streets are dirty in villages. There are ponds of dirty water. They cause different diseases. Scientific method can help us in improving sanitary conditions.

Q.No.4: How has the scientific method helped us in the production and preservation of foods?       

Answer: Science has donated us insecticides. They save the crops from germs and insects and increase the production. However, preservation of eatables is done with quick freeze method.

Answer: Our ancestors were afraid of black cats, broken mirrors and the number 13. But, we are better than our ancestors because we are less fearful than they. We are also more critical than they.

Answer: The scientific method has proved that superstitions have no sound basis. Every effect has some cause behind it. In this way, we have got over the old fears.

Answer:Astrology played an important role in the lives of men and women in the past. Their marriages, births, travelling and all the other affairs were greatly affected by the movement of the stars.

Answer: Three superstitions still current in our country are following.      

1.          Nobody likes to go on a journey on Tuesday.    

2.          Nothing new is started on Thursday.          

3.          Black cat on the way is thought to be malefic.

Answer: Thrifty wives preserved their vegetables and fruits by canning, pickling and drying. However, sea foods and meats were preserved by salting, drying or by freezing.

Answer: Our feeling toward some idea or event is called an attitude. Actually, it is our behaviour or thinking. The use of scientific method can improve our behaviour.

Answer: The unsanitary conditions cause the spread of germs of different diseases and spread the diseases like malaria, typhoid fever, dysentery and cholera, etc.

Answer: In the past, the people used bucketful to bring water. They had to bring water from the wells situated at a long distance. That’s why, they used water sparingly.
